Terms of Service

1.Who you are contracting with

Lexica is operated by [ TO BE COMPLETED ], of [ TO BE COMPLETED ] (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at [ TO BE COMPLETED ]. In these terms “you” means the person or organisation using the service.

2.What Lexica is — and what it is not

Lexica is a legal research tool. It searches a corpus of Cyprus primary materials — legislation, the Constitution, and the judgments of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Administrative Court and District Courts, sourced from cyLAW.org — and uses language models to draft a cited memorandum in response to a question you put to it.

Lexica does not give legal advice and is not a law firm. Using it creates no advocate–client relationship, and nothing it produces is privileged. Its output is a research aid to be checked by a qualified advocate against the authoritative source before anyone relies on it. Only an advocate holding a practising certificate may lawfully give legal advice in the Republic of Cyprus.

Language models make mistakes. A memo may cite a case that does not say what the memo claims, miss a governing provision, or overlook an amendment or a limitation period. We do not warrant that any output is accurate, complete, or current, and you must not act on one without independent verification.

3.Your account

• You must be 18 or over and provide accurate registration details.
• You are responsible for everything done through your account, and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure.
• One account is for one person or one organisation. Do not share access or resell what the service produces as if it were your own research product without saying so.

4.Credits

The service is paid for in credits. A credit is a unit of agent effort, not a currency: it has no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, transferred between accounts, or redeemed for anything other than use of the service. It is not electronic money and is not a payment instrument.

• A question costs between 2 and 20 credits depending on the effort tier you choose before you ask it. The cost is shown to you at that point.
• Credits are held when a question starts and settled when it finishes. If a run fails, the hold is released and you are not charged.
• If a run finishes but produced a degraded result, our current policy is to refund it automatically. See the refunds page.
• Purchased credits do not expire.
• We may grant free credits — during a beta, for example. Granted credits are not purchased, carry no refund entitlement, and may be varied or withdrawn.

We may change prices. A change never alters the credit balance you already hold or the price you already paid for it; it applies to purchases made afterwards.

5.Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the service to break the law, or to seek assistance in doing so;
• submit personal data about other people that you have no lawful basis to share — including client confidences you are not authorised to disclose;
• scrape, bulk-export, or systematically extract the corpus or the output, or use either to train a competing model;
• probe, overload, or circumvent the service’s technical limits, or attempt to obtain credits without paying for them;
• present output as the work of a qualified advocate when it is not, or in any way that would mislead a court, a client, or a regulator.

Confidentiality deserves particular care: if you are an advocate, you remain bound by your professional obligations when you put facts about a matter into this service. Consider whether the question can be framed without identifying anyone.

6.Your content and the output

The questions and facts you submit remain yours. You grant us only the licence needed to operate the service — to process your question, retrieve sources, and produce and store your memo. As between you and us, the memo produced for you is yours to use.

The underlying legal materials are public sources reproduced from cyLAW.org and remain subject to whatever rights attach to them. The software, interface, corpus structure, and cross-reference indices that make up Lexica remain ours.

7.Availability

We aim to keep the service running but do not promise any particular uptime. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features. If we discontinue the service altogether, we will refund unspent purchased credits.

8.Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for a consumer’s statutory rights under the law of the Republic of Cyprus.

Subject to that, we are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, wasted expenditure, or any indirect or consequential loss; and our total liability arising out of or in connection with the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or €100.

We are not liable for any decision taken, advice given, or proceeding conducted in reliance on an output that was not independently verified. Clause 2 is the basis on which this service is offered at this price.

9.Suspension and termination

You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, that we reasonably suspect of fraud, or where we are required to by law. If we close your account other than for breach or fraud, we will refund unspent purchased credits.

10.Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially reduces your rights we will give notice by email or in the application before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that constitutes acceptance.

11.Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Cyprus, and the courts of the Republic of Cyprus have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country and may bring proceedings there.
